Do you feel being weighed down by the burden of your past every day? You won’t be able to live fully and happily until you let go all the past events (and people) that are troubling your mind. They cause guilty conscience, which is no good for your mental and physical health. You may be wondering how this can be done. Read on and everything will become clear to you.
DECIDE that you want to let it go
If you fail to take action on this matter, you will end up sabotaging your own efforts. You should also be well aware that things will not disappear on their own and that you need to promise yourself to “let go.” The decision to let go means realizing that you have a choice to let it go. Just stop reliving the past pain. Stop rethinking the story in your head all over again. Stop it, please.
Show your real feelings
You have to express the pain that the hurt caused upon you. It doesn’t have to be directly revealed to the other person, but it can be on paper, a song, or letter which you won’t send to anyone. It just has to go out of you. You have to express it to get it out of your system! And while doing so, you will better understand what bothers you and what that pain is about.
Stop playing the blame game
Yes, we know that being a victim feels good and that you feel like being on the winning team against the world. But the world doesn’t care about you, so you should stop that one-sided fight. Your feelings matter, but everything else matters also. Therefore, cease to be egocentric and mingle. Nothing is black and white, including your life. Once again, you have to choose whether to continue feeling bad about other people’s actions or to start living your own life to the fullest. You need to take your own life and emotions into your own hands and move on.
Focus on the present moment
Now is what matters the most. Therefore, NOW is the right moment for you to let it go. You should let go of the past, and stop reliving it over and over again. Stop torturing yourself by retelling that story where the main character — which is you — forever stays the victim of other people’s terrible doings. Since you cannot undo your past, you shouldn’t think about it ever again. You should focus on here and now! When the memories come into your consciousness, chase them away by thinking about the present moment. You should always bear in mind that when we fill our brains and lives with bad feelings, there’s scarcely any room for positive things.
Learn to FORGIVE
No one expects you to forget the things that hurt you. If you cannot forget, it’s fine. However, you should FORGIVE. That means you should remember who hurt you but forgive them. Whether that person did it intentionally or accidentally, just learn to forgive them. Stop for a moment and think that we all live only once. All the pain we cause and feel is just insignificant to the fact that there will be a time when you and the person who hurt you will be gone from the face of the earth. Can you see how unnecessary all the pain is?
If you can’t forgive, how can you expect any happiness in your life? To be happy is to DECIDE TO let it GO and to FORGIVE.
